On February 6, 2024, we had the honor of hosting a training and networking day in collaboration with Schmersal, a worldwide leader in Industrial Safety technology. This event was both educational and enlightening, concentrating on three key Industry Regulations.
Machine Regulation (EU) 2023/1230: An Overview of Innovations and Updated Features
Opening the event was engineer Paolo De Benedetto, Safety Consultant for the tec.nicum Schmersal Group, who presented an overview of the new
Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230. De Benedetto emphasized the importance of adapting regulations to the challenges of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. He also discussed new documentation requirements and the responsibilities of economic operators, highlighting benefits in terms of Safety and various legal implications.
EN ISO 14120: Design and Construction of Fixed and Mobile Guards
Gabriele Mastrandrea, Product Development Specialist at Satech, spearheaded a discussion on the EN ISO 14120 Standard, a crucial benchmark in the design of Fixed and Mobile Guards for Machine Safety. Gabriele highlighted the core requirements of the Standard, including visibility, ergonomics, noise reduction, and material durability. He concluded by underlining the significance of a holistic approach that integrates this Standard with other Safety Standards, such as the EN ISO 13857, to mitigate mechanical risks and enhance operator safety.
EN ISO 12100: Safety Requirements in Risk Assessment
De Benedetto returned to the podium for the concluding remarks on UNI EN ISO 12100 - a foundational Standard for machinery safety, focusing on design principles, risk evaluation, and mitigation - highlighting its holistic integration with key industry Standards:
- Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, emphasizing the significance of CE marking for Robotic Systems;
- EN ISO 10218-1/2; ISO/TR20218-1; ISO/TR20218-2 discussing methodologies and procedures for conducting thorough Risk Assessment and outlining the primary Safety Requirements and protective strategies, encompassing both hardware and software;
- EN ISO 14119, addressing the design principles and selection of Interlocking Devices associated with Industrial Guards.
Networking and Engagement
The event also featured engaging moments of networking, where attendees had the chance to meet one another, discuss the topics covered in the workshop, and establish foundations for potential business partnerships. A tour of our Smart Factory highlighted the Industrial Safety protocols implemented in our automated lines, showcasing some of the most sophisticated advancements in Europe.
The topics presented by the speakers significantly enhanced the technical and regulatory understanding of all participants, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach to Industrial Safety. Each Satech event represents a distinctive chance to exchange knowledge and forge connections, equipping attendees for the upcoming challenges.
